Internal SATA Hard Drive – Types and Formats

Internal SATA Hard Drive or Serial ATA (SATA or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) is an internal mass storage device commonly use in computer or Personal Computer (PC) and is in also in other computing system machine, such as found in home console gaming video entertainment units.

The Internal SATA Hard Drive unit composed of many different materials that make up the hard disk drive. This is also known as s a non-volatile, random access device for digital data storage device, The Internal SATA Hard Drive has a rotating rigid platter on a motorized driven spindle within a hard protective casing. This magnetically reads or writes over to the plate by an actuator arm that floats or hover over the platter, and at the end of the arm is the head which read platter disc and is barely touching the surface.

Types of Internal SATA hard drive

Internal Sata Hard DriveThe Internal SATA Hard Drive doesn’t have many types, other than their physical size, but their main difference is the interconnection. the first and most common interface connections is the ATA (Advance Technology Attachment) hard disk, this is also known as IDE interconnects in older machine, they use a very bulky interconnect wires that easily clatter inside the computer making it difficult to maneuver around the computer enclosure.

The advantage of the Internal SATA Hard Drive is low cost and cheap internal hard drives and capable of large storage capacity, the disadvantage of old system is that, the older ATA mother board system needs an adaptor, but still limits the data transfer speed, another is only one drive is able to read/write at one time on the ATA, next disadvantage it has short and limited cable length up to 18inches.

The Internal SATA Hard Drive is the upgraded version of the ATA, the speed of the data rate of the Internal SATA Hard Drive has tremendously increased its data rate speed, its transfer rates can clocks at 6 Gbits/s versus it predecessor at 4MB/s. but even all its improvement its still slower than the SCSI, and its not supported in older system without additional components. What’s great about the Internal SATA Hard Drive is that is low cost, large storage capacity and has smaller cable for better heat dissipation.

Internal SATA hard drive for laptops and desktops

Internal SATA hard disk drives come up with two kinds of hard disk drives one for the Internal SATA hard disk drives desktop version and the other is for the internal laptop hard drives, the desktop unit has more storage capacity but it requires a lot power to operate, as for the laptop, its purposely made to be portable along with the portable computer such as laptops.

The Internal SATA hard drive for the windows 7 external hard drive user, a compatibility issue been reported, they say that it cant detect more than 3bg of storage space, the solution of this is to use the 64 bit win 7 O.S. to be able to utilize the hard drive. Another storage device is the SSD external hard drive or the Solid State Drive, these functions and operates like a thumb drive or flash drive, requires low power and doesn’t have any moving parts, and it is said that it’s more rugged then the standard Internal SATA Hard Drive.
